Sofa/ Sofa, Love/ Love but NOT Sofa/Love

Stop buying sofa/love seat combinations!! Why do furniture stores insist on carrying them still? (Notice that the nicer stores don't.) There is always a better design solution. If you want an L-shape, get a smart looking sectional. You need a lot of seating? Get two sofas. This is a great look! It is symmetrical, it has balance, it looks great. Get two love seats. It is quaint, it doesn't have that dreaded "middle" seat that no one wants to sit in, and so the cushion never wears at the same pace as its neighbor cushions. Get a sofa and two chairs, a love seat and two chairs, get four or five chairs, a sectional and a chair or two, a sofa with a chaise, and a chair. BUT DO NOT GET THE SOFA/LOVE! I can't tell you exactly why, I just don't like it, and so I have looked around, to see if I was alone, and of course, I am not. I have NEVER in my design publications, seen a photographed room with a sofa/love (that was not an advertisement). Go to a large bookstore, check for yourself, look at all of the design magazines. Let me know if you find one- (but I know you won't). The combination is lopsided, BORING, over-done- and as I said before, there is always a better solution. I am in a bit of a crabby mood today- I sure am using a lot of CAPS.

Have a good one!

lovely. sure.:)
i only have a sofa/love because they were hand-me-downs and i'm trying to make do with what i have but reading about this just makes me indignant that i am stuck with a sofa/love combination and how life just isn't fair and i think i'll go cry into my pillow.
how's that for stream of consciousness?
i totally agree with you. even though i have a sofa/love in my living room as we speak. and will probably have for some time. sigh.

I agree. I was just looking at furniture because you told me mine was, um, not very cool, and I was noticing all the sofa/love seat combinations in the lower price bracket. I could bye the sofa/love combo for $1500 or the sofa alone for $1700. It is like they are bribing me into messing up my seating group. Why!

G'day again, Christine,

How's that (very) talented family of yours?

Came to check out your ABC Wednesday A post - but maybe I was too early!

Cheers

Don't do it Alysun!!! Don't let them get you!! They are the same stores that sell a hutch with the table and chairs- and no one actually has enough room for the hutch, but they buy it anyway (because the set is a better deal)- and then they trip around the dining room FOREVER- and it never quite looks right, and they don't even know why. (I think I have some issues)

Christine,
Today my fantastic husband (nearly 20 years now) made me breakfast, and underneath the bagel was the receipt for furniture I'd had my eye on but knew was not in our budget to buy. I was totally surprised & THRILLED! Then I noticed it was couch & love seat instead of 2 couches, only b/c I'm sure he didn't realize that when I'd mentioned "I'd need two..." in front of him.. that I didn't mean the love seat.. LOL... Out of curiosity, I got on your blog to see if you had anything about this subject and found this post. What a riot, first of all... and now I feel totally validated. My husband won't care one wit if I swap out the love seat order for a couch, of course (and there is only a $20 difference between the two.. imagine that!). :-D Woot!
Love your blog to pieces, Anna in NH
