Anyone having a Super Bowl Party? I thought I'd show you a post on some media rooms made for entertaining. These are all taken from Home Entertainment Magazine. I started with my favorite. I like the mixture of black and white with earthy browns. The room has an enormous screen- but still has charm and style.

It is always so much nicer to not have a split focal point in a room. The TV above the fireplace look is much easier to have optimal furniture arrangement than having the two on separate walls in the same room.

Here's one for Will's great back patio- who needs to go inside to watch a show? You'd need a pretty good security system to go with that...

Here is a theater screen that comes down during the show, and goes away for every day. A nice alternative to a theater room.

Here we have that split focal point... I feel like this room was photographed before it was decorated also. I want these guys to hire me to come finish it. We need some pattern and softness in here.

Right now- I wish I were in this tub. What fabulous windows!!!

Here is the "entertainment center" style. I really like that area rug- and great windows again.

This room showed a creative way to cover the modern screen in a traditional room.

Ta Dah! There it is- covered by a tapestry. I feel like the room in general has some scale and design issues with its furniture though.. I bet that rug was over $30,000.... Very nice built-ins....

Have a favorite room? Having a Super Bowl party? Who is in it this year? :)

I am un-American because I don't like TV and I don't like spectator sports. In our house the TV has to be small enough to fit inside a cabinet. I just want to tell you that I admire you for admitting you don't know who is in the Super Bowl this year. I looked it up -- New Orleans Saints vs. Indianapolis Colts. And I like the room with the tapestry.
I had a couple favorites, but the TV by the tub with the to-die-for windows next to it trumps them all. And you answered a question of mine in this post. I've been wondering if it would be too sports bar-ish to have the TV mounted over our mantle, which is over 5 ft tall. Given these pictures, my guess is your answer would be no...
Yeah, I was wondering how high is too high for the tv too. If the room is 17x17 can it be over a
5'8" high mantel? That seems high. I wonder how hard it is to lower the mantel and string the wires?
I know from a design standpoint the TV over the mantel is great because it gives you only one focal point in the room, but from an audio/visual standpoint, it's not ideal.
It's just not an ideal height for comfortable movie watching. Even in a movie theater, you are rarely looking that far upward. You mostly look forward to watch. (remember how in non-stadium seat theaters it stinks to sit up close because you have to look up the whole 2 hours?) A lot of mantels are very high, which means a LOT of looking upward. Especially if it is your primary movie-watching space with your family.
That being said, I've seen it in a lot of homes, and those families apparently don't mind craning their necks upward every time they watch a movie together, so it obviously doesn't bother everyone. (And that way there're no kids standing in front of the TV either. hahaha).
Before putting your TV that high, though, do make sure that you don't lose picture clarity when you're not looking at it straight on. No sense buying a fancy TV and getting a lousy picture, right? You can tilt it downward slightly, but not a lot or it will look silly anyway.
That's just my 2 cents, but I'm sure there are other opinions on this one.
I'm all about the outdoor one with the fire place and the bath tub. it sounds SO wonderful right now with blizzard outside!!
The first one is also my favorite... For the rooms that have the TV over the mantle...where on earth is the dvr box and the dvd player hidden? do you need to have a huge budget to accomplish perfect hidden places for that and to hide the wires? Good design look but not at all practical for a moderate budget. What am I missing?
I had a hard time noticing the TVs. I was too busy looking at the beautiful ceilings in all these rooms!
